The green mile
I have reviewed the green mile which is a film adapted from the novel by Stephen King and it is a very conventional thriller but it does have its unconventional moments.
We have here a clip from the movie where the two wardens are confronting the younger warden after he purposely botched the execution of a prisoner. The mise-en scene is perfect you have the surrounding which is a replication of an old american prison’s execution room and the lighting is very useful as it is daylight but it is still dark enough to add atmosphere. The costumes symbolise what they are portraying as prison wardens and the camera position is a side shot where we can see all three of them but close enough to see the expressions and their eye contact.
This is the most terrifying part of the film with the botched execution of the prisoner and he is roasted alive. Here it is almost dark symbolising the dark nature of the event taking place. Also we are still in the execution room but it is filled with people in period costume which is set in the late 1930s.
