My analysis of the opening of Memento

In the beginning the title sequence is very unconventional because there is a rising string ensemble which is very useful to the atmosphere of the film as it is very sombre and pensive which fits the film very well. Also the writing is unconventional because it is blue and black and the colour blue is not normally associated with a thriller film because it is scene as a very neutral and calm colour. Plus the film is very unconventional in the aspects that it runs in a non-linear order meaning the plot works from the end to the start, so we are plunged right at the very end of the film and we have to work our way through the plot, and try to discover the meaning and mysteries surrounding it. Finally the film has a very interesting feature as it switches between coloured segments and ones which are in black and white which can be used to signify memory and how the protagonist is also working his way through his confusion but which in turn gives us a bit of background of the main character.
